My Favorite Icing for Cut-Out Cookies

Yum
As I have mentioned previously, cookie baking in December is a favorite activity for the girls and I.  It started long ago when they were little.  We would cut out angels, bells and Christmas trees.  Now we create much more elaborate designs.  It all starts with an easy cut out cookie recipe and finishes with an amazing icing!  That makes the cookies special.  So today, I am re-sharing my favorite go to icing recipe to make your holiday cookies really stand out!

The icing creates a smooth finish and hardens once it is dry.

Totally makes the cookies look like they came from a bakery.  Add embellishments for some extra edible bling!  Just cut out any shape cookie and then let your creativity flow.  Color the icing whatever your cookie baking heart desires.

Make many colors of icing and provide simple shaped cookies for a cookie decorating party.
How fun is that?

Ingredients:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp meringue powder (in the baking aisle)
water, for icing consistency
food coloring
Directions:
Make the icing by combining powdered sugar and meringue powder.  Add water 1 tsp at a time.  Alternate with adding food coloring 1 drop at a time until the color and consistency is what you want.  You will want the icing kind of runny so that you can spread it across your cookie for complete coverage.  Decorate how you want and then allow to dry for 1 hour.

Where can you find meringue powder?  Look in the baking aisle of your grocery story and you can also find it at the craft store.  What shape cookies will you be cutting out this year?
Whatever you choose, happy decorating!

Celebrate the little things that make life sweet,
Christine
