A DIY Wreath

Yum
So as I am backing out of my driveway, I always kind of check out the house making sure all looks good, no gaping holes, roof shingles in place, weeds...YIKES, really need to catch up on my weeding, perhaps another day.  Anyway, I am looking at my front door and notice the wreath.  It is looking pretty pitiful, not very inviting.  I know you all do the same thing when you leave your house or maybe I am just weird.  The pitiful wreath is just there looking sadly back at me.  "Please help me?" it says.  Ok, now I am really sounding weird!  I hate to spend a bunch of money on something new and I don't really want to throw the wreath out!  Suddenly, it comes to me!  I saw a great idea on http://www.shanty-2-chic.com

Now I could go out and start from scratch to create something like the above idea (click the link for directions) OR I could add to my existing wreath, which I think is a great plan!

I stopped in an arts and crafts store, searching for ribbon on sale.  I picked a yellow polka dot ribbon for the summer.  At the same store, I found letters of all sizes!  Some are wood, some are a particle board type material and some are made out of foam.  So many choices!  Script ones, block ones, skinny ones and fat ones.  Then there are some unpainted which is great if you want to paint on your own color scheme and design.  Some have bling and some are just black or white.  I really wanted a simple fix!  I just needed to focus!  After much contemplating, I chose an already painted black letter.  You should choose a letter that would fit with your wreath size and style.  You can measure, but I prefer to do more of the eyeball sizing up check...it is very accurate!  :)

A Sprinkle of This and That

This is how my wreath turned out.  All I did was add the ribbon and letter with hot glue.
Just take your existing wreath and jazz it up with the first letter of your last name.  Tie it on or hot glue it to your wreath.  Bottom, top, middle or off to the side.  Use your creativity.  Add some ribbon and you are good to go.  You have breathed new life into that tired old wreath, upcycled and probably spent less than $10.  As the season changes or on a whim, be daring and change the ribbon color.  A whole new look will emerge!

Here are a couple of other inspirational ideas from the bloggers Shanty Chic and Lookie What I Did...

Sounds like a great way to celebrate the little things that make life sweet!

Until next time,

  2. I love the idea of accentuating what you've already got. Budget friendly and so fun to be creative. You can even add seasonal accents like seashells for summer, pencils for back to school, apples for Fall, you got the idea! Thank you for the motivation! Touching up my old wreath tonight!
