Croissant French Toast

Yum

This is a judge free zone, right?
I totally went there!
Croissant French Toast
with
Cherry Almond Sauce
It's the season of decadence!
We eat cookie and cakes and lots of yummy appetizers, so why shouldn't breakfast be special too?
I see no reason?  Croissant French Toast with Cherry Almond Sauce is kind of like a pie.  But, I always think pie at breakfast is aok, especially when there is fruit involved. :) Who's with me on that one?  Besides, it really isn't a pie...it's french toast.  So, it's breakfast.  No question there!  I think I am totally confusing myself.  Just go with it.  It must be the decadence of this breakfast?  Anyhow, Croissant French Toast with Cherry Almond Sauce is  a holiday breakfast to remember!  Besides, any weight gained during the holidays doesn't count.  Just hide it under your heavy winter coat and deal with it in January.  At least that's what I am gonna do and I know you are with me because we have established this area as a judge free zone.

So, let's get to it!

Take those ordinary croissants and "holiday"ize 'em!

Ingredients to make 4:
4 large croissant
3 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 21oz cherry pie filling
1 tsp almond extract divided
4 Tbsp unsalted butter
whipped cream and powdered sugar for additional toppings
Directions:
Slice each croissant in half the long ways.  In a small bowl, stir together cherry pie filling and 1/2 tsp almond extract.  Set aside.  In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk and 1/2 tsp almond extract.  Place unsalted butter into a large fry pan.  Heat until melted.  Dip each side of the croissant slice into the egg mixture, then place onto the hot fry pan.  Cook 2-3 minutes per side.  Remove and serve with cherry pie almond pie filling, whipped cream and powdered sugar.

Not only does the cherry almond flavor say the holidays, but the color does too!
Dress up that old french toast by using flakey croissants and decadent toppings!
