Brisket in the Crock Pot

Yum
My mom made THE BEST BRISKET.
I always requested that for a meal.  As I got older, I asked her to share the recipe.  She did, but no matter what I did, it just wasn't the same.  I blamed it on the brisket and even said it was because I had a gas oven.  Eventually I had a dual fuel oven/stove top, but that didn't seem to matter.  It just wasn't the same.  My mom passed away and I figured that I would never be able to serve a brisket quite like hers. :(
But one day, I stumbled across a crock pot recipe for cooking brisket and I thought I would give it a try.  I channeled my brisket cooking mamma, prayed to the crock pot gods and ended up with...my mom's brisket!

The brisket was so tender and had that great smoky, BBQ taste!  Cooked it right there in the crock pot, perfect for summer time when you don't want to heat up your kitchen.  Check it out...

Ingredients:
2-3 lb brisket
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp celery seed
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup chili sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp vinegar
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1 package of Texas style toast, cooked

Directions:
Mix together chili powder, garlic powder, celery seed and pepper.  Rub mixture over the meat.

Place brisket into crock pot.

Mix together ketchup, chili sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke and dry mustard.  Pour this mixture over the brisket.

Set your crock pot on low and cook for 8-10 hours.  Remove and slice across the grain.  Put slices on top of cooked Texas style toast.  Use the remaining juices to ladle over the sliced meat.  Serve.

I think I've done my mamma proud!

Serving it up on Texas style toast makes it even more fabulous!
Another recipe to get your BBQ on!

Celebrate the little things that make life sweet,
