Citrus Crisps

Yum
Looks like a little reprieve before we nose dive once again into single digit temperatures.
It seems like everyone is coming down with something.  I know, cold weather doesn't cause viruses.  But, being cooped up seems to breed the germs!  So, I try to stay healthy with lots of fruits and veggies, especially citrus.  Oranges, grapefruit and lemon are on my counter just ready for use.
Recently I tried drying oranges and lemons.  Although I don't have a dehydrator, I found my oven to work just fine.  Talk about a room filled with fresh citrus flavor!

You can store these citrus crisps in an airtight container for 6 months.
Then, you can use the citrus crisps plopped in tall glasses of sweet tea, pressed into a cake, floating in a cup of hot tea or even in a chicken you plan on roasting.  How cool is that?

All stored in a mason jar, which by the way, looks super pretty when filled with Citrus Crisps!
Such a wonderful citrus flavor in anything you add these Citrus Crisps too.

Get ready because we are going to do some dehydrating!

Ingredients:
2 lemons
1 orange
Directions:
Preheat oven to 170 degrees.  Clean and dry lemons and orange.  Slice each thinly into discs, approximately 1/8th of an inch thick.  Remove any seeds.  Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. place thinly sliced citrus onto the parchment lined baking sheets keeping citrus slices one inch apart.  Place in the oven for 90 minutes.  Flip slices and continue low baking for an additional 90 minutes.  Total time will be 3 hours.  Turn off oven and leave citrus in the oven for another 3 hours.  Remove from oven and allow to dry in a dust free area for 1-2 days.  Humidity plays a factor in drying time.  Once citrus is dry, peel off parchment paper and store in an airtight container.

Talk about an impression!  Keep these Citrus Crisps around for lots of recipes and for staying healthy all winter long.  How do you keep healthy?

Celebrate the little things that make life sweet,
Christine
