Pumpkin Funnel Cakes

Carnival season may be over in the Midwest, but it doesn't have to be!
Making your own funnel cakes is as easy as can be.  Click the link to find my funnel cake recipe to keep having that treat until next carnival season.  But, let's say you want something more seasonal.  Something with the flavors of the month.  You know I have something up my sleeve, right?
Pumpkin Funnel Cakes just in time for Halloween!

Each funnel cake has that fall pumpkin flavor with a dusting of powdered sugar.  Add a plastic spider and it looks like a spider web!  Now that totally says Halloween!

I really, really, really dislike spiders.  (Perhaps that isn't strong enough...I hate spiders)
But these spiders sitting on a pumpkin flavor funnel cake are just my speed.  :)

No creepy movement, just sitting there on a delicious bunch of fried dough.  I know, it is fried, but it's okay to treat yourself once in a red moon.  Hey, we just had that so now it is really okay!
I am the master at justification! Ha!

Let's move on to making these webs of goodness.

Ingredients:
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/4 cup canned pumpkin filling
2 Tbsp sugar
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
vegetable oil
powdered sugar
plastic spiders, if desired
Directions:
In a large bowl, mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt and baking powder.  In a separate bowl whisk together the egg, milk and canned pumpkin filling.  Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.  Stir until well blended.  Pour batter into a quart sized ziploc bag.  Cut a small hole into one corner of the bag.  Pour 1 inch of vegetable oil into a deep pot.  Heat oil until hot.  I usually sprinkle a little bit of water into the pot.  If it sizzles, then I know the oil is ready.  Using the bag of batter, drizzle batter in a spider web pattern into the oil.  The spider shaped design will float towards the top.  Cook until golden brown, flip and cook a little bit longer.  Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the funnel cake to paper towels to drain.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and a spider.

Adding those spiders turn that trick into a treat!
Your family will so enjoy these pumpkin flavored funnel cakes so make them for Halloween, for a party or just because you are the BEST parent on the block!

Celebrate the little things that make life sweet,
Christine
