Cinnamon Apple Scones

I am loving all this free air conditioning!
I sleep so much better with the windows open.  Even the early morning hooting owls don't seem to bother me.  Snuggled underneath the covers, it's almost too hard to get out of bed in the morning.  Almost....
But, when I know there are Cinnamon Apple Scones for breakfast...
it makes getting up a whole lot easier!

I bet you will spring out of bed for these scrumptious scones.
Made with fresh apples and with whole wheat flour, Cinnamon Apple Scones are sweet and moist.

Get some coffee percolating!  I know, that doesn't happen anymore.  We are the k-cup generation.  Don't you remember when your grandparents brewed coffee and the aroma just filled the kitchen?  Anyhow, grab a cup of coffee and a scone because your fall morning just turned fabulous!

Ingredients for apple cinnamon scone:
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 stick cold, unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 of a Granny Smith apple, chopped
Ingredients for icing:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp milk
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt.  Add the butter pieces and cut in (or use a mixer on low) until incorporated in to the flour mixture.  Add sugar, milk and cinnamon.  Stir until just moistened.  Add the chopped apple pieces.  Pat dough into a large disc.  Place onto an ungreased baking sheet.  Use a knife to cut dough into pie shaped pieces.  Spread each piece slightly from the center so that each side of the scone can get crispy while baking.  Bake in a 375 degree oven for 20-25 minutes.  Remove and cool.  To make icing, whisk together powdered sugar and milk.  Pour over each scone.

Your kitchen will smell absolutely divine while the scones are baking.  Cinnamon Apple Scones for breakfast or a mid afternoon break.  Don't you just love apple season?  I know I do.
