Heart Beignets

February is full of holidays and we love to celebrate holidays around here, especially through food.
Fat Tuesday is less than a week away and another chance at celebrating with food!
So, I wanted to share with you a recipe that is perfect for Valentine's Day AND Fat Tuesday!
What can satisfy both occasions?
A Heart Shaped Beignet can!

Heart shaped for Valentine's Day...check.
A beignet for Mardi Gras...check.
It's a 2 for 1 holiday treat that can't be beat!

This is totally a cheat way to make beignets!  But, I won't tell...will you?

Dust these beignets in powdered sugar immediately after cooking.  Serve them right away!  Might have some Mardi Gras beads thrown your way....for your cooking, no other reason!

So how do you make these little babies, check out the secret...
It does involve frying, but you have nothing to fear.  It is actually pretty easy.

Ingredients:
1 package jumbo flaky biscuits (8 per tube)
vegetable oil
powdered sugar
Directions:
Separate each biscuit from the package.  Use kitchen scissors to cut a small triangle at the top of each biscuit.  Pinch the bottom into a point and round the top portion of the triangle to make a heart shape.  Pour 2 inches of vegetable oil into a tall pot.  Heat the oil over medium high heat.  Once heated (takes about 3-4 minutes), carefully drop in each heart shaped biscuit.  Cook for 2-3 minutes and then flip over to cook other side.  Biscuit is done when golden brown.  Remove from the oil and drain on papertowels.  Immediately dust with powdered sugar.

Heart shaped beignets are such yummy donuts dusted with powdered sugar.  Layers of goodness on the inside of these babies!  What an adorable 2 for 1 holiday treat!
