What a Burger!

Yum
Whataburger! No, I didn't forget the spaces. Whataburger is actually a hamburger joint. None to my knowledge in the Midwest. It is a southern thing! I was first introduced to this hamburger restaurant chain while attending college in Tallahassee, Florida. It started back in the 1950s when drive ins were popular. The restaurant's founder wanted to create a burger so big that it took two hands to hold and people would exclaim...what a burger! Thus, the birth of the restaurant's name.

We love to grill all year long and even grill in the middle of winter. Grilled food has such a summer"ish" flavor but, I love it even during those cold, winter months too.
Summer is still prime grilling season and boy do I have a burger recipe for you! You too will say, "whataburger!!!"

What A Burger

This recipe is from www.justapinch.com
ere we go...this recipe makes 4 burgers so double if necessary.
Ingredients:
1 lb of ground meat
1/2 c finely chopped sun dried tomatoes packed in olive oil, keep oil
2 Tbsp chopped garlic
1 1/2 Tbsp chopped oregano
1/2 tsp kosher salt
4 thin slice of beefsteak tomato
2 Tbsp chopped basil
3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
2 pinches of salt
4 oz whipped cream cheese
1/2 c crumbled gorgonzola cheese
2 Tbsp snipped chives
4 thin slice of red onion
4 ciabatta rolls, split
1 1/2 c arugula

1.  In a large bowl, combine beef, sundried tomatoes, garlic, oregano and kosher salt.  Do not overwork meat.  Mix with hands until just combined.  Make 4 hamburger patties to fit bun.  Cover and let the meat rest.

2.  In medium size bowl, add tomato slices, basil, balsamic vinegar, crushed red pepper flakes and salt.  Toss to coat. Set aside.

3.  In another medium bowl, combine cream cheese, gorgonzola and chives until mixed.

4.  Brush red onions with the oil from the sun dried tomatoes.  Grill those over med. heat on your stove-top.  About 3-4 minutes per side.

5.  Grill burgers to you liking.

6.  Brush some more of the sundried tomato oil on the inside of your buns.  Grill the buns slightly.

7.  TIME TO ASSEMBLE:  Spread gorgonzola cheese mixture on the cut side of each bottom bun.  Top with arugula, then a burger, tomato slice and red onion.  Finish off with the top bun.  Serve.

The flavors just pop in these burgers and you too will shout from the rooftops, "What a Burger!"

Celebrate the little things that make life sweet!

  2. What? There are products from home use in stores??? That is way cool! I have very fond memories because that was the only place open really late in Tallahassee for coffee and snacks. Glad you are enjoying the blog...it is so fun to do!
